There are many online directories which exist to provide users with comprehensive lists of businesses, services and products available either in their area or neighbourhood. These are often searchable. Some are 'free' and some are 'paid'.

Free Shopping Directory Listing

The only cost associated with this is the time taken to input the submission.
Obviously to submit to every available directory would take some time so it is suggested that the key sites associated with your product or services which have the best profile are targeted first.

Research will highlight the most appropriate sites as what may be popular now could change over the course of several months. Many of these sites only ask for ‘reciprocal linking’.

Paid Listing

Many online directories offer enhanced listings for higher positioning when users type a word or phrase into their search engine.

‘Scoot’ for instance (www.scoot.com) which was originally owned by British Telecom and has now been taken over by a substantial online advertising company, offer enhanced listings which includes a page for photographs, description etc. There is a per annum fee for this service.
This would be keyword related ie ‘car, watch, dvd etc’. They offer a free subscription, however the ‘paid subscription’ guarantees top positioning. Scoot is also associated with several other directories and a telephone directory enquiries service which would direct any enquiries to paid sponsors only.
